Is Graco ComfortSport comfy and sporty?

To answer my own question I would have to say it’s kind of mixed on the comfort of this car seat but the design is definitely sporty, with color choices like red and black and the fact that it only weighs 12 lbs.

It’s definitely built more streamlined and sporty than other convertible car seats.  But, with the weight loss on this car seat also comes a drop in some safety features.  That being said though, the Graco Comfort Sport still passes all US safety standards in crash testing.  It also still has LATCH installation system and energy absorbing foam all around, they even managed to include a cup holder on the side.  The real gem though of this car seat is the price…which will get to…right after the pros and cons.

Quick Specs

  • Item Weight: 12 lbs
  • Orientation: forward and rear facing
  • Weight limits: 5 – 40 lbs
  • Height limit: 50 in
  • Harness: 5 point

What are the Pros of the Graco Comfort Sport?

  1. Side-impact testing– meets all US safety standards in crash testing to keep children safe in the event of an accident.
  2. EPS, energy absorbing foam – absorbs crash energy to minimize force to the child.
  3. LATCH system – keeps installation easy and simple.
  4. Machine washable – car seat pad is machine washable, but note it’s on the delicate cycle.  Everything else can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  5. Removable head/body support – supports baby’s head and body for a more secure hold.

And the Cons?

  1. Weight and Height limits – on other Graco convertible car seats the maximum rear facing weight is 40 lbs and forward facing is 65 lbs.  On this Graco model it’s 30 lbs for rear facing and only 40 lbs for forward facing.  This really limits the amount of use that you can get out of the seat, especially since children are recommend to stay rear facing until 2 years old.
  2. Latch system– I know it’s in the pros above, and normally a LATCH system is great, but since this isn’t the easy push button system and instructions are a bit unclear in the manual it can be a bit difficult to install.
  3. Difficult harness – some parents find difficulty adjusting the harness so that it fits snuggly, it can be hard to reach, especially in the rear facing position.

How do consumers rate it?

The Graco Comfort Sport comes in at about 3.9 stars out of 5.  This is still a good rating but not great.  The main drawbacks people find here are the lack of safety protection features and it’s not as easy to use as other convertible car seats.  That being said though, let’s check out the price on this.

What’s it going to cost?

This is what I would call the super economical model because it comes in well under $100.  The MSRP on this is $89.99 but is regularly available on Amazon for $75.99 in both color options, black with red or grey with pink.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a car seat to use every day and that’s going to last you a few years this isn’t my first choice.  It lacks a lot of the new safety features available in today’s market and with the weight limitations it may not last you more than 2 years.  If you’re someone who doesn’t use a car seat that often or maybe as a second car seat for grandparents this could work.  But, I’d pass on the Comfort Sport and go for one of the Graco 65s instead.
